More Photoshop Practice....

Not a lot to say here since I mainly learnt most of the other photoshop stuff on the front cover practice. But yeah, this time I used selection tools to try and cut myself out...not very well I'm afraid. They're really difficult to control with only the mouse, I wish I brought my tablet. But as long as I'm EXTRA careful, it should be fine. It keeps selecting stuff that I don't want. :(
The three main selection tools that I used, Lasso, Selection box and the selection brush. Look at them, mocking me! There are other selection tools if I hold them down, but once again they're really difficult to control with only the mouse so.....

PRELIM CONTENTS PAGE.

Woah, this is so trippy for my MIND.

Questionnaire. Just needs to be checked. -.-

Do you think it's too boring? It's boring isn't it?

Guess what's been happening in the Pop-punk world?

Other then the fact that Green Day has returned to the pop-punk music industry, the other big news is yesterday's release of All Time Low's new album "Don't Panic". Which of course, was a roaring success. This really wacky cover gave me inspiration and well, I was instructed to put anything on here that was "inspirational". The cover is bright, wacky and has a variety of colours. The subjects appear to be cliche action disaster movie features (i.g monsters, asteroids, aliens and nukes). I like how it's related to the title "Don't Panic", like even if all of these things are happening "Don't panic". Don't understand why they're funny, they just are?

Finally! All textual Analysis contents pages done!

Finally finished them! AT LAST! I'm also getting a few ideas from them too, like structures and stuff. I've seen that most of them used a lot of red on their text and banners with white as a background. It sounds plain, but I might as well follow it. Unless I find a better color, heheehe. What else? Oh, showcased images must be large. Just cause they're the stars of the show.

Finished Prelim!

FINISHHHHHHEEDD!

Photoshop. Testing out this baby!

So we're testing out the Photoshop software by creating a preliminary magazine cover. DUN DUN DUN! Surprise, surprise! Anyways, want to hear about what went wrong? Those are the only good bits anyway.

Uploaded the picture and did some texting. No, not the phone you silly. :D But it looks so BORING.
Didn't knew there was this fancy "Layer Style" window. It allowed me to pretty much do some hokey-pokey special effects on the stuff. Make it look more interesting.
Although, the effects are nice, I did go a tiny bit overboard. Making the text practically unreadable. Which is bad because well, let's face it, a magazine is meant to be read and not look pretty.

Preliminary Images :3

Yeah, some of these were REALLY bad.

Magazines anyone?

I need some more magazines for the contents page now. -.-

Time to hit the streets and beg some random strangers. PERSONIFYING THE POP-PUNK LIFE!

Textual Analysis 5- Kerrang! All Time Low

In this Kerrang issue, the main headline showcase is the band "All Time Low", who is modelled behind their headline and logo in the cover. The structure of the cover involve a lot of overlapping and layering. An example of this would be that the main singer, Alex Gaskarth, has his head covering most of the title. This could be related to the the tagline given above the headline, where it states "Total Mayhem"  and the cover clearly represent that statement. This could be a connotation of the fact that the band itself is a tiny bit wild and crazy, since the magazine has decided to make them big and use the image going everywhere. (One arm has been used to overlap the headline, the other has not.). There is also a large banner and cover story in the top of the cover and the bottom right of the cover respectively in bright yellow. This contrasts with the plain, calm main colour theme palette and makes them stand out from the white. The colour yellow could also be a connotation of the word "Puke" in the tagline, although the idea of them being related I think is very unlikely due to the fact that the content of the cover story and banner are unrelated. There is a lot of bold writing, showing us again attitude and aggression. There has been a use of typography in the "Rock and Roll Excess", which looks aged and withered. Making the title on about the history of "Rock and Roll" look like it's literal meaning, making this an iconic symbol.

Textual Analysis 4- Kerrang! Paramore

In the cover of "Kerrang!", the masthead already immediately gives us the connotation of the sound of an electric guitar with it's use of onomatopoeia. The masthead also show a type of typeograpghy, with the use of making the title look like a cracked sign. This could show us an iconic sign that the masthead has been "cracked" due to the sound created by the connotation noted previously. This could connotate how "powerful" the magazine is, since that their onomatopoeia is even powerful enough to crack down text. The main headliner and image is of the band "Paramore", with the main singer, "Haley Williams" in the foreground, whilst her band is surrounding her in the background. This highlights her importance and gives the audience the idea that Williams is a leader of some sorts. This is further supported by her hair, pose and difference in outfit, which are more lighter then the other band members who are all in black. The headliner also uses a grid system for the composition, by making the headline be written in the direction of Williams' head. The magazine also features a startling bright yellow colour to highlight specific areas. This could be connotation of the masthead "Kerrang" as it is a loud riff noise and that the colour yellow is a loud, outstanding colour.

Textual Analysis Front Cover 3- Q Oasis

In the magazine “Q”, it showcases a band member of “Oasis” giving a proportional angled shot. The way that the camera-man shot makes the model look intimidating by making him look like a much more larger man. This is further supported by the large close up of his fist, which connotes to the act of violence. This could be related to the tagline “Noel” still pulling no punches”. The layout of the magazine has been made to overlap each other, making the cover look really busy. This could connote the idea of making the model look like he is punching out of the cover, as the various elements of the magazine cover is made surrounding the fist. Colour-wise, the palette has been made to compliment the “Q” logos own colour palette, making the cover visually appealing to the eye and easy to follow. His hair is also messy, giving the symbolic sign of the model having some rebel background due to the fact that he does not care what his hair looks like.

Need to get more magazines. -.-

I need to get more magazines for these textual analysis, at least one Kerrang. Why does Tesco have to make them so expensive?!

Textural Analysis Front Cover 2 Q-MUSE

In the front cover of the magazine "Q", there is a large image showing a band member of "Muse" smashing the "Q" logo masthead with an electric guitar. This is a connotation of rebellion; the band member is clearly demonstrating refusal of order by demonstrating conflict against order, in this case a mainstream music magazine. The band member is also wielding the guitar with both hands, giving the audience the idea that he is strong by showing that he is attacking at full force. Most of the headlines and cover stories are in bold, giving of an intimidating demeanour. This is further supported by the banner describing the magazine as "The UK's Biggest Music magazine", which is all in capital letters. One of the cover stories describe "Rock's Greatest Nutjobs", which can also be related to the image because the action that the band member is doing can be considered the workings of a "Nutjob" to society. The tagline also states how "Matt Bellamy is out of control",  which backs-up the connotation of a "Nutjob" again. The cover also show a themed colour palette, which mostly include grey and black tones with red being the only primary colour. The tone gives the reader the image of a urban theme, whilst the red show aggression and anger. These are once again another connotation of "rebellion" and "uprising". This can be further connoted by the expression shown on Bellamy's face, which is an angry smirk. A facial expression that is half-angry and half-mischievous, which is what a rebellion represents, the anger to rebel and the mischievousness to start a rebellion.
